Frequently Asked Questions
Rope bondage: tying people up, with rope! More seriously, at Rope Office Hours we run sessions focused on Japanese-inspired rope bondage, which can focus on many things, but is usually about sensuality, physical restraint, and the mental & emotional interaction between a person doing the tying and a person being tied up.
Anyone over 18 years of age can come to our events, provided they respect our ethos and rules.
Absolutely! Plenty of attendees come solo and either learn on their own or find a partner during the event. We don't facilitate partner matching however as we don't want to put pressure on anyone.
Our events are for everyone - from people who've never held a piece of rope in their life to people who've been doing this for years.
If we run a session within an event that requires some previous experience we will always make this clear.

Most of our events take place in Studio 3 which is wheelchair accessible. To use suspension points we need to be in Studio 1, which is not wheelchair accessible.

We recommend comfortable clothing which doesn't restrict your range of movement. If you want to be tied up, especially by less experienced people, you can make their lives easier by wearing smooth and fitted clothes. This will avoid the fabric bunching and the rope moving with the fabric.
Please note that any hard elements such as bra underwires, buttons, zips etc. could be pressed into your skin with rope in uncomfortable ways. Delicate fabrics such as lace and tights risk being damaged.
Tying and being tied is a physical exercise, so please be careful about using binders or other chest compression methods. Rope on your chest might further restrict your breathing and create additional compression.
Popular clothing choices include leggings, gym wear, and yoga clothes, though we wouldn't recommend harem trousers for people being tied as they will limit your options of hip ties.
As we are renting a space at a dance studio and someone could accidentally walk in, please ensure that your chest and crotch are covered at all times.

Yourself and an open mind! If you have rope and kit, you're welcome to bring it. If you don't, we have some communal rope and we sell safety shears for £3.
Many people view rope bondage as a sexual activity, though not everyone does.
